— afarmjournal note: I like this statistic (which is a big deal for me to say about statistics), but let’s not forget the exacerbation of health issues in humans. Consider the diet-related illnesses common in America which are linked to the high amounts of refined grains in our diet. Higher consumption of plant material (/ less animal material) is necessary to solve many issues including those of CAFO pollution, foodborne illnesses, anthropogenic influence on climate change, and the obesity epidemic; but the situation(s) also necessitate an increase in genetic biodiversity among the produce we are producing and ingesting.
